About Local Girl Travels

I’ve been traveling the globe since I was very young but my first trip to Italy at 17 is what set my passion for traveling to new places and trying new food ablaze. I was lucky enough to visit my family’s ancestral home in Lucca, Italy with my dad and very Italian Grandfather.
Now I obsess over when I can leave the country next. I thrive off of planning trips that don’t break the bank and balance giving me enough site seeing while offering my husband enough downtime so that we both come home feeling happy and fulfilled.
I hope that you find my experiences helpful when you’re planning trips of your own–even if they’re in your backyard! Because no matter where you are, it is always best to experience life like a local.
Travel Can Be Local
Just because you don’t have the time away to go on far-off journeys doesn’t mean you can’t travel. If you have a random Saturday or Monday off, you can turn it into a day to explore your home town. A beautiful rooftop or a great spa day can be just the ticket to take you out of your life and transport you to the possibility of what’s next. Changing your surroundings and routine are foundational steps to breaking free of old habits, seeing the world in a different light, and opening yourself up to what’s next. Try it!
Travel Can Be Affordable
I grew up with parents who would stay at the Holiday Inn or sleep in their van before paying to stay at luxury resorts. Then my sister grew up and started working at one of the world’s largest hotel chains. I’ve experienced some of the best hotels and spas in the world and can tell you–they’re not always worth it! Stick with me for recommendations on how to make your travel budget go further and experience the wonders of this world without exhausting your bank account.
Travel is Life Giving
The way that traveling to Italy as a 17-year-old transformed who I am and how I view the world is hard to explain. All I know is that I’ve never been more interested in ancient history than when I was standing in the middle of the Colosseum in Rome or walking through the ruins in Ephesus. I never appreciated the beauty of another culture as much as when I tried the local dish from a family who cooked it for me. Every time I travel somewhere new, the world gets bigger, never smaller.
